Light Rail 2017 was held on the Gold Coast in February of this year. A true testament to the light rail renaissance in Australia, we saw more than 200 attendees from across Australasia meet to discuss best practice, emerging trends and technologies and share key learnings from the delivery of projects in Australia, China and the UK.
New and ongoing investment is highlighting light rail as the transport mode of choice for governments around the country and it continues to be adopted as a key component of effective integrated public transport in many Australasian cities.
The first day of the conference agenda included keynotes from Edinburgh Trams and MTR Corporation in Hong Kong as well as Australian Project updates from the Gold Coast consortium, Canberra, Sydney, Parramatta and Newcastle. Attendees also had the opportunity to choose between two technical streams over the afternoon covering either; Network Design, Management and Integrations or Customer and Safety.
Day two covered LRT planning, design and delivery with and insight into Auckland’s light rail plans from Auckland Transport as well as sessions on best practice engineering, tram stop design, financing light rail, sustainability and standards development.
Following the conclusion of presentations, a group of attendees got to experience ‘The G’ in action firsthand as they travelled in style on the tram to the Keolis Downer/Bombardier Southport Depot for a site tour. This was a particular highlight as attendees had the opportunity to tour the maintenance shed as well as get an insight into the light rail control centre. A sincere thank you to Keolis Downer and Bombardier for their efforts in organising the tour.
Thank you to all speakers, attendees, sponsors and exhibitors for your support and commitment to the conference. As the event continues to grow, we look forward to announcing venue and dates for 2018 very soon so please check back for further details.
