Bio Connections Australia explores drug development, early phase clinical trials, translational research and expediting Australia’s great science into commercialization. It comes at a critical time for Australia’s medical research sector.

The focus of the agenda this year will be on translation and commercialization of homegrown Australian research, improving drug development and clinical trials in Australia as well as the impact of COVID-19 on the landscape.

The Federal Health Minister asserts that Australia has an opportunity to become a world leader in future medical research. Other experts have echoed the sentiment that we have a golden opportunity to attract new medical research, technology and clinical trials to Australia and added that there is also an opportunity to grow pandemic-related research and other areas. If this is true, how can we capture this opportunity? What needs to change?

Bio Connections Australia provides an important platform for further discussion and debate on what the challenges, opportunities and realities may be for drug development, clinical trials and medical research in Australia.

Themes and Topics to be discussed:

  • Developing & Delivering New Medicines & Vaccines – What the Pandemic is Teaching Us About Australia’s Drug Development
  • The Current and Future Clinical Trials Landscape and Australia’s Position Post COVID-19
  • How do we get more Australian programs into Clinical Trials from Homegrown IP/Programs?
  • Attracting Biotech Investment to Australia – Preparing an Effective Strategy for Capital Raise
  • Translating Research at Unprecedented Speeds: Developing a Novel COVID-19 Vaccine in Australia
  • Planning for Phase 1 Clinical Trials in Australia in the COVID-19 ERA
  • ‘Virtual’ or Teletrials in Australia – Transformation and Maintaining Efficiencies with Digital Innovations
  • Maintaining Momentum, Sustainable Strategies & Creating Value in Adjacencies
  • Partnerships for the Future – Complimentary Ecosystems to Accelerate Drug Discovery & Development
  • Digital Tools in the Connected Era for Clinical Trials
  • Navigating Regulation in Australia Vs Overseas
  • Taking Advantage of the R&D Tax Incentive in Australia

Re-writing the Optimised Clinical Trials Playbook

This bespoke digital theater takes place on Thursday 13th August 15:00-16:00 Singapore Standard Time (SST).

The clinical trial environment was already evolving at a rapid pace before the presence of COVID-19, but now speed and efficiency are paramount. With a focus toward achieving faster time to market, reducing R&D costs, and increasing clinical trial success rates, various digital tools such as AI, machine learning, telemedicine are quickly becoming the next frontier in clinical studies.

Alongside the case study sharing of these digital strategies, multiple illustrative examples will be used to present the practical considerations and execution of designing and running various adaptive design strategies, including logistics and impact on clinical operations, data management, and randomization services with focus on implications for statisticians.
