The Hon. Steven Joyce, New Zealand Minister of Transport, has confirmed his attendance at the NZ Rail Briefing 2010.

The New Zealand Rail Industry is in a time of change.

KiwiRail has been set the challenge of becoming a commercial entity, weaning off a $90 million yearly subsidy, a new operating model is being introduced for metro commuter rail services in Auckland and Wellington as are new locomotives, which will come on stream in 2010.

Meanwhile the DART program, a $600 million overhaul of Auckland’s rail network continues to progress. Among these changes, rail is still striving to find its place in the New Zealand’s traditionally “road dominated” transport landscape.
