Workshop Details

The purpose of the workshops is to provide participants with the opportunity to contribute to the development of the ARAs technology strategy and associated roadmap which will in turn inform the rail industry in harmonising its technologies over the next 30 years. The presentations provided during the previous one and a half days will help shape the outcomes of the workshop.

The workshop will focus on three particular areas namely rolling stock, train control and operations and infrastructure. Participants will be requested to join one of these domains according to their particular interests. The workshops will be led by a technology facilitator who will be supported by an industry chair and two subject matter experts in each of the three domains. The Panel will help stimulate debate on future technologies and draw out the thinking of participants on: (a). the principles and strategic drivers that underpin a technology strategy, and (b). the strategic objectives to achieve the strategy (roadmap/plan). The panels will focus on three technology periods, namely 0-5 years, 5-15 years and 10-30 years.

The Facilitator will set the scene for the workshop and the panels will drive the outcomes sought with the facilitator providing expert guidance. Each panel will introduce the discussion by identifying the Panels list of principles and strategic drivers for the strategy. Participants will be encouraged to agree or disagree with these and offer up alternatives. Once these have been agreed the panels will focus discussion on the strategic objectives required to satisfy the principles and drivers of the strategy over the three periods mentioned above. RISSBs Managers will also be present to capture the main points raised during these discussions.

The outcomes of this workshop will be refined into a single document titled the ARAs Technology Strategy 2040
