The 6th annual NSW Transport Infrastructure Summit brought together a number of respected, senior industry and government representatives sharing their perspectives on future transport infrastructure needs for NSW.
Day One of the conference dealt specifically with the planning and delivery of pivotal transport projects for Sydney. Geoff King, Manager – City Strategy at Parramatta City Council highlighted the importance of preparing the city's transport infrastructure network for population growth in Western Sydney. Geoff further stressed the chances and challenges of attracting adequate employment opportunities to further the region's growth. Professor David Hensher, Director Institute of Transport and Logistic Studies, University of Sydney initiated a thought provoking discussion on future transport priorities for NSW's capital city. He was joined by David Bentham, Director, NRMA and Terry Lee-Williams, Transport Strategy Manager, City of Sydney who completed the picture by bringing the council's perspective to this important debate.
The second day of the Summit focussed on issues evolving around freight transport in NSW. Stuart Cosgriff, Partner at Clayton Utz presented on the implications of the National Land Freight Network Strategy and on how to achieve the right mix and priority of capital investment and policy reforms. Kym Lennox, Principal Consultant at The Tipping Point Institute outlined the challenges of delivering freight in an emission constrained future. His presentation shed light on the long-term impact of the Carbon Tax on freight transport.
