FIFO and liveability of the mining villages in the Bowen Basin Region
  • FIFO and DIDO mining employees reached a record high in 2010 in the Bowen Basin region
  • FIFO operation reduces pressure on the existing community infrastructure as well as impacts on the mining families
  • FIFO/DIDO employees mainly stay at the mining camps (i.e., mining villages) during the shift period
  • The mining village occupants rate their villages slightly higher than they rate for the region, where they work
  • The main two reasons to stay in the mining villages are: accessibility to the work site and unaffordable housing in the towns near to the work site.
