Background to the masterclass: The continuous growth of the Australian coal industry
The Australian coal industry has once again shown a continuation of growth in spite of the Global Financial Crisis and down turn in the steel industry in the later part of 2008. The emergence of China as a buyer of Australian coking and thermal coal has enabled a potential major down turn to be averted.
Chinese and Indian consumers are interested in investing in Australian coal. The long ship queues off Australian coal ports underlines the continuing demand for Australian coal.
Further investment in new coal loading capacity in Newcastle and Gladstone is on track to provide the infrastructure to enable Australia’s position as the world’s leading exporter to be maintained in the future.
Coal prices remain at the second highest level ever seen and renewed optimism amongst the players is seen in the announcement of new mine developments.
This Masterclass provides your opportunity to understand all the elements in the coal chain that makes this dynamic industry the world leader.
