11:35 am

  • Hydropower and pumped storage projects are gaining popularity as attractive options for environmentally friendly energy generation and large-scale storage solutions. These projects heavily rely on pressure tunnels and shafts, which serve as essential elements in their infrastructure.
  • Due to inadequate knowledge transfer and a lack of shared historical experience in the design of pressure tunnels and shafts, these structures are often either overlooked or overdesigned at the concept design stage. In both cases, the consequences can be catastrophic for the project.
  • Oversimplification can lead to construction and operational challenges, while overdesign can unnecessarily increase project costs, potentially preventing the concept from advancing to approval.
