AusRAIL PLUS 2011 received an exclusive preview into the trackSAFE Foundation initiative and the official launch took place last night at the Annual RISSB Rail Safety conference dinner.
An Australian-first, the not-for-profit national foundation has four focuses:
1. Improving level crossing safety
2. Reducing the number of people trespassing on train tracks and rail property
3. Reducing the number of suicides and attempted suicides on the rail network
4. Providing additional support for rail industry employees who witness or are first on the scene to these traumatic incidents.
First year trackSAFE activities include the development of a national rail safety curriculum for inclusion in all Australian schools; the standardisation of railway level crossing questions in driver license tests; and a Best Practice Forum for Industry on rail industry trauma.
