In a recent interview with IMM Events, Andrew Woodley, Managing Director at Rio Tinto Coal Mozambique stated that “it is critical that we build a sustainable and well-respected industry made up of globally competitive mining and associated businesses.” Andrew recently delivered a presentation at the 4th annual Mozambique Coal conference. His talk covered Rio Tinto’s take on establishing a sustainable and globally competitive coal business in Mozambique. It included observations around issues such as

  • Respecting and working with host communities and stakeholders

  • Key operational performance requirements

  • Requirements for a globally competitive and sustainable coal chain solution

  • Localising the business and developing the right skills and culture
