Close-Up: David Clarke

 Dr David Clarke is Vice President and Head of Strategy at ArcelorMittal Dr David Clarke is Vice President and Head of Strategy at ArcelorMittal where he is responsible for development of medium to long term industry outlook, coordinating the Group’s annual strategy process, and leading projects of key strategic importance. After joining Mittal Steel in 2003 to support integration and operational improvement activities in the Group’s then new acquisitions in Eastern Europe, he co-led development of the Mittal Steel Value Plan in 2006, a key element of the successful bid to merge with Arcelor, and was appointed Vice President in 2007.

Prior to joining Mittal Steel, Dr Clarke held positions at McKinsey & Company; Princeton, Cambridge and Oxford Universities; and AT&T Bell Laboratories. He holds a PhD and MA in Physics from Princeton University where he was a Fulbright Fellow and a Hackett Scholar, and a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Western Australia. Dr Clarke is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council for Responsible Mineral Resources Management.

Dr. Clarke will be presenting at the 8th annual EU Iron Ore conference, held on the 1st and 2nd October in Paris. He will be speaking about:

 Sustainability in Volatile and Uncertain Times

  • Global steel demand growth remains relatively slow, impacted by continuing weakness and uncertainty in
  • Europe
  • Although Chinese growth is compensating for weaknesses elsewhere in the short-term, what is potential for medium term?
  • Strategy for sustainability to manage through these volatile and uncertain times
