We are pleased to advise that the NT Chief Minister The Hon. Adam Giles MLA will be opening the 2nd Annual ADM’s Northern Australia Defence Summit, which will take place on the 15th and 16th October in Darwin.
Here is a snippet of the Chief Minister’s background:
Chief Minister Adam Giles was born in the Blue Mountains, New South Wales, and began his working life in a bakery at the age of 12.
After high school he studied accounting and then real estate, working in property management before moving into public housing management for the Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Commission.
Mr Giles moved to Canberra to work as a social and economic policy adviser for the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. As a member of the Northern Territory’s Indigenous Economic Taskforce, Mr Giles travelled and worked throughout the Territory before settling in Alice Springs.
It was after working for the Department of Employment and Workplace relations that Mr Giles became frustrated with welfare policy for Indigenous people and decided to run for the Federal seat of Lingiari for the Country Liberal Party.
He lost but was elected to the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly in the Alice Springs seat of Braitling in 2008.
Mr Giles was sworn in as a Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government in September 2012 and was sworn in as Chief Minister of the Northern Territory on March 14, 2013, becoming the first indigenous head of government of an Australian state or territory.
We are delighted to have Mr Giles opening the event. Join him and other defence industry professionals at ADM’s Northern Australia Defence Summit. To view the full summit agenda and to register, please visit the Northern Australia Defence Summit website.
