PREMIER MIKE RANN talks Austmine 2009
One spin-off benefit of the mining boom is world-class Australian technology that itself earns substantial and increasing export income.
This is reflected by export revenues forecast in the last major review of the mining technology services sector by the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE).
The study estimated export revenue for the year 2004-05 of $1,240 million, $130 million more than that for 2003-04. Although no study has been undertaken since, revenue is likely to be much higher this year.
Australia has developed a reputation world-wide for innovative services and products that deliver competitive advantage for global mining houses.
The Austmine 2009 International Conference & Exhibition to be hosted in Adelaide on 30-31 March will provide the industry with the opportunity to catch up with these advances.
Says South Australian Premier Mike Rann: “South Australia is entering an exciting new phase in our economic history, as we position ourselves to take advantage of the massive hike in mineral exploration development around the State.
“We are very pleased to be hostingAustmine 2009 Conference and Expo, one of the world’s most prestigious mining equipment, technology and services conferences.
“This is a great opportunity to showcase South Australian and Australian talent, innovation and commitment to supporting the development of the global mining sector.”
In 2007 the biennial conference, which was held in Perth, attracted more than 350 delegates from India, North America, China, Latin America and Indonesia, and Australia.<
Austmine 2009, to be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre, is also expected to be a signature event with international presentations and exhibits demonstrating advances in energy and water saving technologies, better customer delivery processes, better safety systems and mine design, and other developments.
