About the Course
Government policy and public administration have evolved over time in response to changes in community expectations, global trends, institutional arrangements and styles of management.
Despite constant change, government and public administration is underpinned by a respectful understanding of Parliamentary systems, legal and Constitutional frameworks, processes of policy development, budgeting, and transparent and accountable governance practices.
This 1 day course has been designed to provide participants with an insightful overview of how government has developed in Australia and the daily operation of our three tiers of government. It includes an outline of the budget cycle and how policy is developed, legislated and regulated. It also includes information on working effectively with government.
This course will also demystify the complex and often intimidating systems of formal procedure, as well as the rules and standards of probity necessary for effective and ethical behaviour within the public sector.
Participants will obtain a framework to assist in understanding relationships between ministers, departmental senior management, independent offices, Parliament and the Judiciary, and the tools to find their way through the ‘unwritten rules’ of public sector organisational culture.
