Key Learning Objectives
- Understand an overview of the CSG water industry
- Appreciate state and federal regulatory requirements
- Discover field development (gathering systems) methods
- Understand Associated Water quality factors
- Identify Associated Water treatment/pre-treatment technologies
- Understand membrane and desalination processes
- Gain a working knowledge of brine management, environmental and economic considerations
- Determine beneficial reuse options and key drivers
Who Will Benefit
This is a course for technical and non-technical personnel, looking at becoming more familiar with how the CSG industry manages and treats Associated Water.
Job titles include water engineers, general engineers, geologist, technicians, consultants, field operators, researchers, commercial staff, management and board members
About the Course
This course will provide a clear understanding of the fundamentals of the Associated Water (AW) management of the CSG Industry. It will describe key industry elements, the extensive requirements of the AW infrastructure and the challenges that the industry faces to achieve the best outcome for the community and the environment.
At the introductory level, an industry overview both for Australia and the world will be discussed. This will include the field establishment with relevant hydrogeological considerations, strategic planning to address regulatory and social environmental requirements. It will also include lessons learned from the establishment of similar industries.
Detailed consideration will be given to the AW quality and quantity and its impact on storage infrastructure configuration, treatment options and water quality targets.
The course will cover potential pre-treatment technologies of the AW that could be applied prior to more complex processes such as membrane filtration, ion exchange and desalination.
Brine management options including current and promising technologies will be reviewed and assessed.
Finally, beneficial reuse options of treated AW will be appraised based on the application and relevant regulatory requirements.
