Key Learning Objectives

  • Gain an insight into the development and background of the LNG industry and the role of FLNG in the overall LNG supply chain
  • Identify the advantages and challenges of an FLNG facility compared with onshore LNG
  • Understand the physical properties of LNG and typical specifications for production and trading
  • Examine the technical components required to establish a FLNG operational system including gas treating, liquefaction, storage, transfer, offloading
  • Review FLNG technologies and processes
  • Determine equipment considerations for FLNG
  • Discover design challenges involved in producing LNG offshore
  • Appreciate safety and integration aspects of LNG production on a floating facility
  • Understand other operations involved in the LNG supply chain including shipping, receiving terminals and regasification
  • Identify the current status of projects/developments around the world

About the Course

In large gas fields located remote from markets (sometimes referred to as stranded gas) or in smaller gas fields (including gas associated with oil), the logistics or economics of pipelining the gas to market may not be feasible.

Gas is shipped to distant markets as a liquefied product (LNG) and the technology of LNG is well established. Liquefaction (by cooling to minus 162 degrees C) occurs in large land based plants and is transported to receiving terminals in LNG carrier vessels.

Floating LNG (FLNG) takes liquefaction technologies into a floating production system which can be located close to offshore gas fields. It is not a new idea and has been under consideration for more than 20 years. There are a number of technological challenges which have been the subject of study, design development and testing.

Currently there is a major resurgence in FLNG – the first FLNG vessels are under construction and scheduled to be deployed over the next few years. This course is therefore a timely event for all those interested in this emerging technology and its associated challenges.

Who Will Benefit

It will benefit, oil and gas management, engineers involved in the design and management of offshore LNG facilities. This could also include finance personnel, field operational and maintenance staff, field evaluation engineers, financiers, legal staff, board members, those interested in new approaches to gas production and technologies applied and their challenges.

Testimonials

“The instructors have a tremendous background in the LNG industry. Their vast experience proved to be invaluable as they shared with us the details of LNG”
Permits and Application Officer, BG Group
