Key Learning Objectives
- Understand wear, what it is and how to prevent it
- Discover the differences between abrasion and erosion
- Learn why metals corrode and methods to control corrosion
- Find out how coatings and treatments function to protect against corrosion and wear
- Become familiar with the vast range of coatings technologies
- Understand how surface engineering can be used to ‘up-rate’ the performance of existing components
- Find out why some surface engineering process give great wear resistance and some don’t
- Gain a practical working knowledge of surface engineering
About the Course
There are many different wear and corrosion processes, understanding the differences between them enables engineers to select appropriate surface treatment and coatings technologies to control them.
This course not only explains in detail the nature the problem but provides a comprehensive overview of all the surface engineering processes used for wear resistance and corrosion protection, what they are, how they are applied, where they are used and how successful (or not) they are in particularly applications.
In addition the course contains real life examples of industrial applications of the technologies through case study examples. As this is an overview course it is suitable for any engineer working in any industry who would benefit from knowing more about wear, corrosion and surface engineering.
The course starts at the beginning explaining the fundamentals of wear and corrosion resistance and builds step-by-step taking you through an understanding of what properties we require of surfaces to prevent wear and corrosion through to how we go about choosing the right surface engineering technique for an industrial component.
It gives a comprehensive overview of all the surface engineering process from mechanical processes through diffusion techniques to the vast array of coatings technologies from paints to plating, plasma techniques to weld overlays.
Who Will Benefit
The course is ideal for engineers who work in any industry sector and who are responsible for maintenance, solving plant problems and selecting equipment.
