overview

ANMF-
This conference has been approved for 15 CPD hours by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation Continuing Professional Development Program

The correctional services setting is a challenging environment in which to provide quality health care. The individuals in Australia’s correctional facilities often face complex problems with their health and wellbeing both within the correctional setting and post-release.

Now in its 8th year, Correctional Services Healthcare is the only conference for the industry to gather and exchange experiences and strategies in addressing healthcare issues within correctional facilities.

The conference gathers health service directors and managers from a selection of state government agencies, key stakeholders, health managers and industry experts from correctional facilities and community health professionals across Australia to discuss how best to improve care for this sector of the community.

Discussion will be centered on a combination of case studies of implemented initiatives, research presentations and interactive discussions around how to effectively address the most challenging scenarios as a correctional healthcare professional.

The summit features three keynote addresses;

    • Self-Harm and Suicide After Release from Custody: Using Data Linkage to Inform Targeted Prevention
      – Dr. Rohan Borschmann and Prof. Stuart Kinner, Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, Melbourne

    • The Challenges of Meeting the Needs of Participants who Interface with the NDIS and the Correctional System
      – Meg Parsons, Branch Manager Technical Advisory and Complaints, National Disability Insurance Agency

    • How to Make your Prison Hep C Free and Keep it that Way!
      – Dr Darren Russell, The University of Melbourne, James Cook University and Cairns Sexual Health Service
