overview

The National Health Workforce Summit will be a platform for addressing how we tackle the current healthcare workforce challenges in Australia and the changes needed to create a sustainable workforce for the future. It will bring together healthcare professionals, policymakers, educators, and other stakeholders to discuss and address the challenges and opportunities related to the healthcare workforce. The conference aims to explore innovative solutions and strategies to enhance the quality, accessibility, and sustainability of the healthcare workforce, ensuring that it meets the evolving needs of the workforce. The summit will provide a platform for attendees to engage in thought-provoking discussions, exchange ideas, and establish collaborative networks.

Key topics include:

  • Tackling the barriers to flexibility, inclusivity and collaborative workplaces and addressing burnout.
  • How to develop the rural workforce and support the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforce.
  • Training pathways and re-credentialling processes to develop a workforce which meets the needs of community.
  • Reflection on the lasting impacts of Covid-19, and how can we adapt to new models of care, emerging technologies and how we improve retention and engagement in our existing health workforce.
  • The importance of workforce planning to address the current and future healthcare needs.
  • Significance of aligning workforce supply and demand, anticipating demographic shifts, and adapting to emerging healthcare technologies.
  • Recruitment and retention of healthcare professionals, the challenges faced in attracting and retaining talented individuals in the healthcare sector, including issues related to work-life balance, burnout, and the need for competitive compensation and benefits packages.
  • Successful strategies implemented by different organizations to enhance recruitment efforts and create a supportive environment that promotes job satisfaction and professional growth.
  • Importance of fostering diversity and inclusivity in the healthcare workforce and benefits of a diverse workforce in improving patient outcomes, reducing health disparities, and promoting cultural competence.
