Faced with a region fronting an increasingly uncertain and unpredictable security environment, the scale and sophistication of threats between ASEAN nations present a new paradigm; how to balance domestic interests with maintaining peace and regional stability. With the convergence of religious extremism, territorial disputes, illegal immigration, transnational crime and international surveillance all on the rise; these matters pose immediate and pressing implications both to the Australian government and general public.

This year’s Summit will be a high level policy-driven dialogue with a theme and focus on ‘Policy, Surveillance & Interoperability’ and will draw on government policy, industry capability, international perspectives, research & innovation, and expert analysis. Key themes to be discussed include border security, counter-terrorism, defence strategy, international security, intelligence capability, cyber security, foreign trade & investment and privacy & surveillance; all of which are critical in safeguarding our national interests.
