overview

The greater Snowy-Monaro region and surrounds are about to be transformed. Australia’s largest energy infrastructure project since the Snowy Mountains Scheme, the multibillion dollar Snowy Hydro 2.0, could usher in a period of rapid growth for the region, creating up to 5,000 new jobs across NSW. Alongside this landmark project, a visionary Canberra – Eden Railway proposal is set to reshape how the region is travelled and open up a new artery of freight with Canberra Airport at one end, and the forthcoming $44 million upgrade of Eden Port at the other.

Held in the heart of the Snowy region, Cooma, this conference will bring together the myriad of industries involved with construction and economic development, alongside government and local representation, to discuss the new opportunities on the horizon, and how to prepare the region for the growth to come.

Topics to include:

  • Regional growth trends in the broader Snowy region
  • Making the Eden-Monaro region the renewable flagship of the nation
  • An update on planned roads investment and construction in the region
  • The potential for the expansion of air services
  • The proposed Canberra to Eden railway line, and what it would mean for new economic development in the Snowy region
  • The vision for a manufacturing industry at Cooma’s Polo Flats
  • New innovations in tunnelling and drilling technologies
  • Developing local engineering capability in the wider Southern region (and potential for local content)
  • The outlook for broader industrial development in the Southern region
  • Upskilling locals – training requirements and opportunities
  • Lessons learned from other regional centers who have experienced major infrastructure investment
  • The outlook for accommodation and other regional services to meet the expected influx of workers
