URBAN OPERATIONS - DESIGNING FOR SAFETY, ACCESSIBILITY AND SUSTAINABILITY

10:40 am

  • Sutherland Shire Council has created a model for bringing back the locally indigenous tree canopy, which is called the Green Streets Program. This model has evolved over 5 years, resulting in 10,000 street trees being planted across the Sutherland Shire
  • The key role for the Green Streets Program is directing replenishment into the locations where people live and move the most to ensure the next generation of trees are working hard for those communities for the long term
  • The Green Streets Program objectives include preserving the Shire’s sense of place, using the right trees in the right spots for the long term, carrying out quality planting and maintenance, and engaging with the community about the value and benefits of trees

11:40 am

  • Lessons learned from the Market to Riverbank and Bank St Upgrade
  • Key considerations for designing for accessibility and inclusivity
