The Sustainability in Government Conference is set to take place on the 15 June 2022 at the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel, Sydney. This is the only event that is specifically designed for local and state governments, and what they are doing and can be doing to become sustainable.

Sustainability has become a major issue in government and there is currently a significant amount of activity in this area. This conference is aimed at local and state governments looking to obtain key information and identify what is being done to achieve Net Zero in government.

  • Sydney hospital leading the way with recycling polypropylene with how it started and how it is now managed
  • Educate and support the staff in how to recycle polypropylene to the standards set by Sydney Hospital
  • Implementing the method of this technique within the general population in local councils
  • Monitoring the reduced waste produced by Sydney hospital in relation to meeting waste management targets set by the hospital

  • Community recycling centres which have been built to properly dispose of and collect waste
  • Implementing the Return and Earn as a buying it back scheme across local councils
  • Educating the communities to understand the importance of practicing better recycling methods

  • Achieving an emissions reduction pathway to reduce emissions of 80% below 2016/17 levels by 2036 or 20% by 2024
  • Educating and supporting the community in assisting to minimise energy use, water generation and raise awareness of waste as a resource
  • Monitoring and reporting on energy use and water consumption across all of council facilities
  • Achieving whole-of-council buy-in to the strategy and embedding climate change into governance, leadership, and operational decision

  • Achieving The Cities Power Partnership across the nation to reduce emissions and reap the benefits
  • Monitoring and collecting data on carbon emissions and energy use across council’s facilities
  • Commitment made by local governments to use 100% renewable energy to reduce carbon emissions
  • Installation of renewable energy sources on council facilities i.e., Solar PV, Wind turbines, Battery storage systems

  • Behavioural insights to draw on and understand the social, cognitive, and emotional drivers of human behaviour in relation to sustainable communities
