About the Course

The course involves an initial half day updating and refreshing participants on advanced Excel and general Excel issues relating to model building and model optimisation.

First part of the course involves actually developing/building a model/ worksheet in a problem solving context, examining all possible aspects affecting model design and optimisation.

These practical sessions are supported by detailed step-by-step notes, including screen grabs, so that the exercises can be repeated or revisited at a time subsequent to the course.

There will also be sessions to help develop a robust understanding of model excellence, including an examination of:

  • best practice
  • procedure upon receiving a foreign model
  • planning and designing the model
  • particular issues associated with highly-stressed financings.

The next phase of the course examines and illustrates the modelling approach for a number of specialised contexts, such as LBOs, MBOs, mergers, venture capital and comparative pricing
.
Also the recommended approach to rates of return calculations, depreciation, interest calculations without circularities, cash sweeps, currency exposures etc. will be applied to these model types.
