POST-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS
Thursday 8th December 2011

9am 12pm
WORKSHOP A

More effective safety Change Management

A significant percentage of safety-related change management initiatives either fail completely or are implemented, but dont reach the intended outcomes. This workshop will cover the fundamental principles of change management, use case studies to identify areas to focus upon and provide participants with measurement tools that they can use to assess likelihood of success both before and during the change process. These validated tools will assess issues shown to predict safety culture and employee commitment to change. The participant will leave with an understanding of the theory and practice of safety change management and a tool-box to assess readiness.

Facilitated by: Dr Benjamin Brooks, Senior Research Fellow, National Centre for Ports and Shipping, Australian Maritime College

This half-day workshop will explore all the considerations needed for the effective implementation of risk management processes to reduce the risk of hazardous manual tasks including:

  • Understanding the true cost of manual task-related injuries
  • Fitting the workplace to the workers to reduce staff injuries
  • Linking ergonomics programs with existing safety professionals - Creating a direct line of accountability for ergonomics
