Gridlocked road networks are a growing frustration in Australia’s car-dependant cities and unless decisive action is taken soon our roads are in danger of grinding to a halt.
The general consensus among industry experts is overhauling road pricing to explicitly charge road users for their travel choices is a major part of the solution to Australia’s congestion woes. But the concept of congestion charging, like the introduction of any new tax, is controversial and tends to attract fierce opposition. So the challenge ahead is to not only develop the right congestion pricing model for Australia but to harness the political and public support needed to put theory into practice.
Lloyd’s List DCN is proud to present its second Road Pricing conference – which aims to examine exactly what roadpricing should achieve in order to identify the most effective solutions, the transport alternatives to back up pricingreforms and techniques to harness political and public support of its introduction.
Now is the time to act! By 2020, Australian Motorists will waste $20 billion a year in avoidable congestion costs. The need for a road pricing system that better reflects the true cost of road use has never been more urgent, so join government representatives, transport operators and industry experts to open up the road pricing debate, learn lessons from its introduction abroad and examine the best solutions within the Australian context.
The conference aims to bring together experts in the field to discuss the benefits and pitfalls of varying road pricing models and the policy framework and community engagement strategies needed to support their introduction.
