The National Transport Commission together with representatives from police, industry and other transport agencies, including each State transport department, has been developing national compliance and enforcement (C&E) laws for several years.

The new laws aim to create a culture of compliance and accountability in the industry in order to increase road safety and reduce infrastructure damage, while improving the effectiveness and efficiency of interstate road transport by minimising inconsistent compliance laws across Australia and reducing unfair competition.

Companies are looking at how their organisations need to implement policies to comply with the chain of responsibility legislation, and how they can ensure they comply with each aspect of it.

It is in this context that Informa is holding the 4th Chain of responsibility conference on 9 & 10 November in Sydney.

This is the only event in Australia that provides strategies for effective implementation and compliance of key Chain of Responsibility legislation, as well as regulators updates and industry case studies on best practice to ensure compliance.

What will you discuss this year?

The event will look at what goals were to be achieved by the legislation and briefly consider to what extent they have been successful, and how they should be modified to better reflect the needs of the industry:

  • To address the significant influence of all parties in the transport chain towards behaviour on the road
  • To improve the effectiveness and efficiency of interstate road transport by minimising inconsistent compliance laws that apply across Australia
  • To provide for more efficient enforcement powers, increased penalties and sanctions modelled on those operating in newer areas of law including environment and Occupational Health Safety and Welfare
  • To create a culture of compliance and accountability in the industry in order to improve road safety and reduce infrastructure damage

The program will feature:

  • Legislative updates
  • Incorporate regulatory change
  • Understanding compliance issues and complying
  • Obligation to COR, Fatigue Management, Duty of Care
  • Case studies from organisations that are fully COR compliant
  • Legal presentations – understanding the laws and understanding the penalties
  • Srtategies for key considerations – drugs, speed, fatigue
  • Different industry case studies
  • Interactive sessions
  • Implementation rather than politics

Including case studies and best practice discussion
The event will feature industry case studies, presented by organisations that have already implemented Chain of Responsibility schemes and will help the audience learn from their best practice.
