More mining case studies feature at South Australia Transport 2012 - as the current boom brings great opportunity for the transport industry.
Cairn Hill Project General Manager Simon Parsons, will speak on IMX Resources transport requirements for this major project. Joe Mastrangelo, RESIC’s Director of Major Projects and Investment Attraction is examining current and future transport requirements across the SA minerals sector.

South Australia is heading into an era of unprecedented growth. With a value of US$27.5 billion, BHP’s proposed expansion of its Olympic Dam operation alone is expected to spark investment unmatched by anything the state has experienced in recent history.

This massive project is just one of hundreds across a range of industry sectors and, as a result, South Australia can expect an increase of more than 50 million tonnes of rail freight and about three million tonnes of road freight per year as a result **(Adelaide Advertiser 7/1/2012).

On the urban front, there is a push to revitalise Adelaide into a more cosmopolitan, productive, sustainable and liveable city. For this vision to be realised a reliable, well connected, and easily accessible public transport sector is what is needed. However, at present, Adelaide is more car dependant than ever (only Hobart residents use public transport less). Until commuters are confident their trains, trams and buses will get them to where they need to be, the city's traffic woes will continue.

Now in its 9th year, the South Australia Transport Summit will bring together stakeholders from local, state and federal government, mining and resource professionals, ports, rail, road and urban planning experts to discuss the latest developments in policy, planning and projects. Senior representatives from all sectors of the freight and passenger transport industry will explore what is in the pipeline for 2012, and how cooperation between sectors can ensure the most commercially and environmentally sustainable development for South Australia’s transport future.
