The recent Federal and WA State Budgets both highlighted the significance of investing in transport infrastructure projects for building economic growth. Following the Federal Government’s record $8.5 billion investment for Infrastructure Australia "pipeline" projects, the State Government’s ‘Building for the future’ budget delivered a range of transport initiatives designed to keep WA moving.
As Australia’s largest exporting state, WA has the nation’s highest demand for and cost of transport infrastructure. The state covers 2.5 million square kilometers – about a third of Australia’s land mass – and includes some of the country’s richest mining and agricultural areas. The State collectively handles almost half of Australia’s exports and effective and efficient freight transportation is critical considering the State’s physical expanse and the extent of its export demands.
Now in its 6th year the Lloyd's List DCN’s WA Transport Infrastructure Summit has developed into a pivotal industry forum where an honest, practical assessment of the capacity of WA's transport freight and passenger infrastructure can be made. It represents the opportunity for industry, transport users and government representatives to exchange open discussions on current projects and future planning developments.

Why be involved?
- Have your say in the planning debate: There has been a new State Government since our last September WA Transport Infrastructure Summit and the Summit will address policy matters relating to transport planning and regulation.
- Is that another bill? The current economic turmoil has highlighted the challenge of funding ‘nation building’ infrastructure projects. With a number of large development works either underway or in the pipeline, an understanding of project finance options has never been greater for WA’s balance sheet.
- Honk if you’d like extra trucks on the road! Where are the freight corridors? The growing freight demand has already put pressure on the export supply chain. With most of the State's major ports built in the middle of regional cities and towns, the issue of future developments has created an inherent tension between the needs of transport operators, exporters and the wishes of residents.
- Time to celebrate and reflect: Earlier this year, the long awaited $4bn development at Oakajee was finally signed off and the new Perth to Bunbury highway, the biggest single road project in WA is shortly due to open well ahead of schedule. What lessons can be learnt from these and other developments?
- Discuss what matters with industry stakeholders: Now in its 6th year the Lloyd's List DCN’s WA Transport Infrastructure Summit has developed into a pivotal industry forum where an honest, practical assessment of the capacity of WA's transport freight and passenger infrastructure can be made. It represents the opportunity for industry, transport users and government representatives to exchange open discussions on current projects and future planning developments.
PLUS: Focus on effective project team creation and retention with the optional pre-conference workshop held on 7 SeptemberMore details HERE
