Coal markets have been hit by falling demand and coal prices are expected to slide even further.

However despite economic uncertainty, there are still significant mining activities in the NSW coalfields:

• Coalworks is at a vital stage in the development of its Oaklands coal mine in the South West of New South Wales
• Felix Resources’ Moolarben open cut mine in the Hunter Valley is expected to start up in September
