“Native title is a right that must be used as a tool to bring about positive change, for social purposes, for cultural purposes and for economic purposes. It must be used as part of our armoury to close the gap between indigenous and non-indigenous Australia. Mabo would have expected no less”

The Hon. Jenny Macklin MP,
Federal Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs

In October 2008, the federal government announced changes to the federal court in native title resolution. This is part of a sweeping ongoing review which looks at how the processes can be streamlined to enable speedy and sustainable outcomes for the native title system that empower and enable traditional land owners.

The 3rd annual Negotiating Native Title Forum brings together key players in the review with a premier panel of Indigenous leaders, land councils, negotiators, state and federal government, claimants, industry and experts to discuss the new directions for native title legislation and practice.
