Self-managed super funds in the post-reform landscape

Stronger Super will take Australia’s superannuation system to its next stage of maturity. SMSFs need to adapt to a constantly changing landscape and the government’s SMSF reforms will help in this regard – they will improve SMSF integrity and increase community confidence in the growing SMSF sector.

Stuart will discuss the announced Stronger Super reforms and the current compliance priorities of the ATO as regulator.

In this session we will look at the proposed changes to the contribution cap mechanisms and the treatment of excess concessional contributions. The question of why we need limits will be discussed, who should have the responsibility for monitoring the caps and what are some of the strategies that are considered as methods of mitigating the impact of the caps.
